O Lori (gênero Nycticebus) é um primata parente dos lêmures,
proveniente do sudeste asiático, que se alimenta de frutas, insetos e
néctar. São mamíferos venenosos, com uma glândula próxima ao cotovelo
que libera uma forte toxina e, quando se sentem ameaçados, eles esfregam
o pente de dentes no veneno e a espalham no pelo, assim se algum
predador se aproximar eles apenas se encolhem em uma bolinha e deixam
exposto apenas o pelo coberto de toxina. Há apenas um registro de
mordida de um animal desses em um ser humano, o que levou a um choque
anafilático. Por serem fofos, são ilegalmente contrabandeados como
animal de estimação, e sofrem muitas torturas no processo já que suas
garras e dentes são cruelmente arrancados para evitar acidentes com o
veneno; por esse motivo principalmente, uma espécie está criticamente
ameaçada de extinção e as outras estão classificadas como vulneráveis.
Lembrem-se: animais selvagens não são domésticos, quer um bichinho
fofinho para ficar ao seu lado, adote cães e gatos.

Loris (gender Nycticebus) is a primate relative of lemurs, from
Southeast Asia that feeds on fruit, insects and nectar. They are
poisonous mammals, with a gland nearby the elbow that releases a strong
toxin, and when they feel threatened they rub the comb of teeth in the
venom and spread it on the fur, so if any predator approaches they just
shrink into a ball and leave exposed only the fur covered in toxin.
There is only one bite registration of such an animal into a human
being, leading to anaphylactic shock. Because they are cute, they are
smuggled illegally as a pet, and suffer many tortures in the process as
their claws and teeth are cruelly torn to avoid accidents with the
poison; therefore one species is critically endangered and the others
are classified as vulnerable. Remember: wild animals are not domestic,
if you want a cute pet to stand by your side, adopt dogs and cats.
