A Aranha Ogro e seus olhos assustadores / Ogre-faced spider and it's scary eyes

Biologia-Vida | Photo: Kurt Orion

The specimens under the gender Deinopis sp (family deinopidae) are known as ogre-faced spiders, and just looking at the pictures you can see why; the name derives from the Greek word Deinos meaning "fearful". The way these spiders hunt is well elaborate: they make a network with its web and hold it with the front legs, hanging above the ground upside down waiting until a prey appears and she can throw her self over it and catch it with the network web. They can see the prey below perfectly even in dark environments due to the pair of abnormally large eyes she has, in fact these front eyes are so big compared to the other six who that it looks like she has only two eyes. They are found in tropical and subtropical regions.
